SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AREN’T CAUSED BY THE TYPE OF STUDENT THAT THE MEDIA TELLS YOU ABOUT

Teachers, principals and counselors: As most of you are aware, some of the recent school shootings were apparently committed by students who were not known for their acting- out behaviors, but instead for their relatively quiet withdrawal and depression. We have gotten quite a few calls asking for explanations. Youth professionals are often more accustomed to preventing and addressing violence from acting-out youth, and may feel less prepared to prevent or address violence from other types of youth.Here are some of the questions we have been receiving at our office and in our workshop:Question: Why are some depressed, withdrawn kids becoming suddenly violent?Answer: Perhaps some of these kids are like pressure cookers that build up so much steam that they literally explode. Many professionals are used to seeing serious youth depression that includes withdrawal, lethargy, reduced verbiage, reduced activity levels, self-harm and/or threats of self-harm, and comments reflecting hopelessness and despair. ACTING SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ANYONE WHO HAS DRIVE AND AMBITION

Acting schools are the perfect forum to enhance and embrace people who have what it takes to become an actor/actress. Many acting schools have differing programs that allows the student both choice and flexibility when choosing the class to suit their requirements..Most acting schools run a one year program as standard. The hours tend to be 30 hours per week 5 days per week, with additional time allotted to evenings and weekends so that the student can learn their lines and/or rehearse for an action shoot.A typical starter program at an acting school will focus on building a foundation for acting using training techniques found in the Theatre and using them for screen acting.The classes will introduce the student to finding out what kind of actor/actress they really are and what they feel they have within themselves and then nurturing that talent. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL – A DISNEY SUCCESS

The High School Musical phenomenon began with the original movie that premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2006 and was directed by Kenny Ortega and written by Peter Barsocchini.The story featured Troy Bolton (starring Zac Efron) as captain of the basketball team and Gabriella Montez (starring Vanessa Hudgens) as a math and science academic. The pair auditioned for the East High School musical extravaganza, despite peer pressure from their friends. The remaining cast of the movie includes competing performers for the musical leads, Sharpay Evans (starring Ashley Tisdale) and her twin brother Ryan Evans (starring Lucas Grabeel) and friends and Wildcats team member Chad Danforth (starring Corbin Bleu), science club leader Taylor McKessie (starring Monique Coleman) and playmaker Kelsi Nielsen (starring Olesya Rulin).High School Musical 2, the sequel movie, also aired on the Disney Channel in August 2007 and featured the original cast returning from the first movie.
